(week 4)
Today was great - i took a lot away from it.
We spent most of this afternoon's class wandering through Canberra's central hub in CIVIC in search of a variety of things.
I have more to add to this post, but for now here are some of my shots.

Myself, Michael and Kylie - or is it? |
Neutral (a scene mostly comprising of even levels of reflected light (grey)
ISO 100, f/5.6, 1/250 not a bad effort from the 60D, but slightly too dull for my liking |
ISO 100, f/9, 1/250 (-1.5) moody, but unusable in the real world to earn me money |
ISO 100, f/4.5, 1/250 (+1.5) over exposing slightly + improved colour and detail "imo" |
High-key (a scene mostly comprising of high levels of reflected light (white)
ISO 100, f/10, 1/1000 My camera's evaluated metering result image appears dull with only subtle detail |
ISO 100, f/10, 1/1000 (-1.5) camera aperture reduced way wrong |
ISO 100, f/5.6, 1/1000 (+1.5) camera aperture increased greater detail and truer colour (+2 stops would be better again i reckon) |
Low-key (a scene mostly comprising of low levels of reflected light (black)
ISO 100, f/4.5, 1/25 camera's evaluated metering result image has good detail throughout |
ISO 100, f/4.5, 1/40 (-1) shutter-speed increased = under exposed loss of detail in the blacks |
ISO 100, f/4.5, 1/25 (+1) shutter-speed decreased = over exposed highlights blown out and soft blacks |

Portraits
Belinda then dropped an unexpected bomb on us all and asked us to go capture two different portraits from people around us. The following photographs are what i managed.
Alisa - the quiet friendly ANU student from China.
This initial photograph was taken after i discovered Alisa was out doing some clothes shopping. Where i managed to stop and speak to her was just near a well-know department store, and the fact the her clothing was similar to that of the area i felt this might make for a nice environmental portrait. The idea was good, but the result wasn't what i wanted - too busy. So...
ISO 200 - f/5.6, 1/800 |
After we filled in the model release form i had with me (thanks again Dru) i saw a more flattering angle and lighting condition so i framed it all up and bingo! Apart from me wanting to add a bit of bounced fill-light onto her face - it is a far more engaging portrait i reckon :)
Alisa - ISO 200, f/5.6, 1/160 (+1) |

Cameron - the man with all the goss' @ The Information Centre.
While he helped a woman with some information, i decided how i wanted to fill the frame and took a test shot to assess the exposure, i sopped up my shutter speed and waited for that decisive moment and beauty! got a very respectable shot :)
Cameron - ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/40 |

Okay, so i took another portrait.. No need to explain this one, it speaks for itself ;)
ISO 200, f/2.8, 1/250 (original) |
ISO 200, f/2.8, 1/250 (post edit in-camera) |
ISO 200, f/2.8, 1/250 (further post edit in-camera) |
Hi Andrew, Some lovely work. You really engaged with Alisa the second time around! :) Belinda
