Final opportunity.

Okay, so due to Belinda's post on FaceBook today saying that we have until 9am, June 18 to submit all work for our photo-documentary assignment. I feel i now have one more final opportunity (yes!) to re-visit Royal Canberra and try capture those two or three illusive shots the evaded me on my previous time there in order to boost the overall affect of my collection.

So i will contact the golf course tomorrow and hopefully arrange to get down there on Friday to give it another go. Must remember to book a lens (or two) probably the 70-200mm f/4 L before Thursday from the CIT collection to help with this. I will also be taking along my trusty 50mm, 10-22mm and 60D with its freshly cleaned digital sensor.

The forecast for Friday is for a frosty -5º morning start clearing into a lovely day from then on. Fingers crossed this is the case.

Looking forward to re-visiting the team for one last time, might even take my portable lighting with me and take a big group shot of everyone before they knock-off for the day to give to them as part of the set of images i plan to present them with once this assignment is finished - as a bit of a thank you to them for their cooperation.

Stay tuned...

Test done :)

It feels good to have that test out of the way now.

I answered every question but 1 (think it was #47) and i left a comment on the test paper saying something like "this question is slightly confusing to me and there is no appropriate lecturer present to help clarify it for me so what am i meant to do now..?"

Not to worry, i felt i answered all of it as best as i could and hopefully that is reflected with a good mark. Now it's off to finalise my revision for tomorrow's technology test..

Hope everyone else feels they did a solid job too.

Photo-Documentary - Analysis

After re-reading the requirements listed on the assessment criteria sheet today, it became obvious that i had completely forgotten about this segment of the overall task. So I have since put together an analysis of what I have developed/created for my story "The life of a greens-keeper".

Not 100% sure this is all that is required, so (Belinda) feel free to leave me with some feedback before next week :]

Shot selection for Belinda to review and give feedback.

Hello Belinda, shame we couldn't do this in person during the week so i could communicate with you in a better way than this, but will try do my best not to confuse you.

The following 12 images are what i have selected from my previous posts on this blog. You will find a bit of text underneath each image explaining a few things.

I welcome your feedback regarding these images and will take into consideration any further suggestions you might have for me so that i can wrap up this assignment.

At this stage it looks like i may have a chance to return to Royal Canberra this Friday, if all goes well, otherwise it will be later next week, because i would like to get all of my remaining assignments and revision for these two test out of the way before i focus my energy back on this. Hope you understand where i'm coming from regarding this :]

When I do re-visit Royal Canberra i would like to try re-shoot a few shots that i thought were important to the story, but i didn't quite manage to achieve the best angle, lighting or sense of what the worker was doing from my previous visits.

I also feel my story requires more than 6 photographs - I feel 8 or 9 will do it justice.

Anyway, i look forward to reading/hearing your thoughts on all this.

(Hope all is okay)

Documentary Assignment - update.

After reviewing my photographs in class last Monday and getting some positive feedback from both Belinda and my fellow classmates, it was suggested that i now cut down what i had selected (and posted to my blog) to a more refined selection of images that have enough strength to support the story.

I think the brief asks for a minimum of 6 and maximum of 10 photographs - i have got it down to 23 with the possibility of another visit.

Why visit them again and take more photographs? Well it was also suggested to me that if i am aiming for  an even higher mark for this assignment, a few more close up shots of the workers might be ideal. Guess it's worth another trip, the boys are all familiar with me and it is a nice place to spend a day anyway, so perhaps i will arrange something later this week or next. See how i go..

Anyway, here is a proof-sheet of the 23 photographs i have selected from the 699 shots taken so far. Crickey! I will print these out so i can use the same approach to editing by way of arranging the thumbnails manually rather than keep it all restricted to a computer screen. Should help i reckon :]

Royal Canberra - Day 2

A much more comfortable temperature awaited me on the golf course this morning and there wasn't any frost on my windscreen to clear off either.

Arrived just after 6:30am today, because i tried going a new way, but took two wrong turns - oops! So once i arrived at Royal Canberra the boys had all gone their separate ways and were already making a start on their designated tasks.

So i kindo f had to play catch-up, but it ended up working out well for me. It was nice to chat with a few of the blokes i met last Friday and meet a couple of new members of the team as well.

Here is a collection of photographs from today.

Revisiting Royal Canberra (tomorrow)

Okay, so after Belinda taking some time to review the collection of images (thanks again) from my first time shooting at Royal Canberra it was suggested i should try get in close on my next visit to gain a stronger interaction / connection with the subjects themselves with the addition of their environment in the background - thanks to a wide angle lens.

So, I am booked in tomorrow again at 6am with the boys and have only my 10-22mm and 50mm lenses packed this time, not the 70-200mm lens i borrowed last time. This should be fun, because i enjoy the challenge of limiting myself to only one lens as it makes me re-think my approach, my angles and my composition and teaches me to think differently about what i am trying to achieve as a whole. Lets hope it all comes together for me tomorrow ay.

In relation to this, i feel that because i managed to build a fairly solid first impression with the boys last week and gave them time to talk about themselves etc they should hopefully now feel  comfortable with me getting up in their face a bit more tomorrow with my wide.

Weather forecast is for a 5º morning tomorrow, a much more inviting temperature than last Friday's -3º that i managed to push through. Considering all of the above, i do hope it is a productive morning that puts me in a good mood for tomorrow night's wet-darkroom class.
